Rehearse with Costumes Monday, Feb 7 and Tuesday, Feb 8

Hi everyone

As I mentioned on Saturday, we will be reviewing ALL COSTUMES while you are rehearsing on Monday and Tuesday, Feb 7 and 8.
Monday will only be lead characters and adults.
Tuesday will be everyone including ALL children's chorus's

For Monday's rehearsal on Feb 7, please note that if you are in scene 2-1 (Max, VT kids, Captain, Maria, Elsa and Franz)  You will need to arrive extra early to get into your costume for that scene so we can start at 6PM.
If other adult cast members can come early to help set up the stage that would be great.  We will be running ACT 2 (and 1-10 thru 1-13 ) with scene changes and those that are responsible for moving items should be ready to go too.

For Tuesday's rehearsal on Feb 8, please note that if you are in scene 1-1 (ALL CHILDREN and NUNS) you will need to arrive extra early to get into your costume for that scene so we can start at 6PM.  Again, if other adult cast members can come early to help set up the stage that would be great.  We will be running ACT 1 with scene changes and those that are responsible for moving items should be ready to go too.

Members of the costume committee and I will be making notes during both rehearsals about any costume problems or changes that may be required.  We'll let you know if there's any changes needed.

For some of you this will be a great opportunity to figure out how you're going to make some of your quick costume changes.  Don't worry, we will help you come up with a plan so that it all works out smoothly.

Here is my list of costume changes that will be EXTREMELY tight.  If you are on this list, start thinking about a plan NOW and let's discuss so that we can try it next Monday / Tuesday.
You may need someone from the costume crew or a friend or family member to help you out.

Scene 1-9 to 1-10

  • Maria change from pajamas to play clothes.
  • VT kids have about 1-2 minutes more than Maria but your change needs to be quick too.

Scene 2-1 to 2-2

  • Captain and Maria changing into wedding attire.

Scene 2-2 to 2-3

  • Liesl, Brigitta and Gretl changing out of wedding clothes into regular attire.
  • Captain, Maria, Kurt, Frederick, Louisa and Marta have approx one extra minute but your change needs to be quick too.

To all of you......Have fun adding your costume to the mix as we BUILD THE SHOW!

Makeup by Avon

Ginny Hansen asked me to let you all know that she is an Avon consultant and that she can get you make-up for the show at a discount from retail prices at local stores.  Let Ginny know if you are interested.

If you do not have your costume yet, please still check in with the costume crew to let them know when you will have your costume ready. Important Costume Information. Please Read Below!

Hi Everyone.

*Please start bringing your costumes in for approval now!  I will be at rehearsals for sure on Mondays and Saturdays (and probably many others too).  So don't wait.  ***If you're not rehearsing on a Monday or Saturday and you can fit it into your schedule, come to church anyway and bring your costume in for me to review.   There's a LOT of you and a LOT of costumes this year, so we want to make sure everything is on track because it's only going to get crazier later!!!

A plastic bin works great for storing these items. We will not hand out any accessories to kids without a plastic bin for fear of them getting misplaced. PLEASE let me or the costume crew know if you have any trouble finding costumes. We are happy to help.

Boys – All boys are in both the Lonely Goatherd chorus and the Picnicker’s chorus although they can wear the same outfit for both. Here is what I suggest for them.

  • Brown, dark tan, dark green, or gray pants that can be purchased at a thrift shop and brought in to be cut off for knickers or shorts.
  • White or cream dress button shirt although other light colors may work too. This can be long or short sleeve.
  • Knee high socks in brown, white or other color to match.
  • Brown or black shoes

Suspenders will be provided. If you would like to add a hat from the 30’s era that would be GREAT.

Girls – All girls will be in either the Lonely Goatherd chorus or the Picnicker’s chorus but the basic costume is the same.

  • All girls should be in dresses, skirt and blouse or jumper and blouse. Please choose colors in the earth tone family or greens, reds or blues….no pinks or purples please. These dresses are usually full skirts with puffier sleeves. Blouses were fuller back then also. The Lonely Goatherd girls will be given aprons and head pieces to wear for that scene. Girls will also need tights or knee highs preferably in white or a color to match costume. Black flats will be great for shoes. The picnickers chorus is welcome to add hats, purses, jewelry etc from that era.
  • Teen girls may wish to have a slim mid-calf skirt with a blouse and belt. I do have a few of these if you would like to look at them.

PICNICKERS

WomenThere are pictures on the blog sight of some dress options. Slim mid-calf skirts are great with a dressy blouse too. Feel free to add purses, jewelry, hats, etc from the era. I do have some of these already. Please avoid pinks, purples or too bright of colors.

Men – Men can wear brown, dark tan, grey or dark green pants. You should also have a button shirt in an earth tone color or blues or greens. Subtle stripes are fine. Suspenders would be great. If you have a casual sport coat (maybe tweed) that you would like to add that would be fine too. I do have about 10 fedora hats if you would like one. Just ask me at a rehearsal.

PARTY CHORUS

Women I am seeing great dresses already! You should be choosing floor length dresses in a color other than white or black. If the dresses are strapless, feel free to add a shawl or bolero jacket if you wish. White gloves would also be nice. Wear lots of costume jewelry in pearls, fake diamonds, etc. Sparkly barrettes or headpieces are great too. You can find a great selection of dresses at Good will, Savers or other thrift shops. I do have a few in sizes 6-12.

MEN – You should be in a black or Dark Blue suit with a white shirt. Tuxedos are also great. Bow ties would be very nice but we are also making some ascot ties if you would like one. White gloves would also be great. Please wear black dress shoes.

Refuges may stay in their original costumes or change to darker warm clothes and add capes, shawls, sweaters, hats, gloves etc to dress warm for the climb into the mountains. We do have a few of these available.

NUNS – You will need black socks or tights if you are a postulant and black fairly flat shoes.

Adult Get Together at Green Mill Thursday Night!!

Hi everyone!!

We've all been working really hard on the show and it's going GREAT!!!  I'm so impressed with all of your passion and enthusiasm to get this show off and running so well.  After just over a week, it's amazing what we've accomplished.........Many of the set pieces and props are ready to go, costumes are coming together and we've completed the blocking and dance numbers for the entire 1st Act!!   Now that's reason to celebrate!!  So in long standing tradition, let's get together after rehearsal on Thursday night about 9:00 PM at the Green Mill (694 and Lexington).   All ADULTS in the cast and crew or parents of the cast and crew are invited.  Join us for some social time and a chance to relax and relish life!

Green Mill on Thursday for brewskies and Wings....these are a few of my favorite things.  Hope to see you there!

Lonely Goats hat and head band making Schedule

Children in the Lonely Goat Chorus will be making their own hat and head bands for the Lonely Goatherd show.

If you are part of the Lonely Goat Chorus, please plan on attending both of the following sessions.

Saturday, Jan 15 after the lunch break from 12:00 - 1:00 in the courtyard
Saturday, Jan 29 after the lunch break from 12:00 - 1:00 in the courtyard

Note:  If you complete your hat or headband in the first session you won't need to attend the 2nd session.

All materials will be provided.  Marcy Bennett and Jean Nickman will be leading this activity.  They will be demonstrating how to make the hats and headpieces and helping you if you have trouble.

Please make sure your parents are aware of this activity because it is not on the schedule that I handed out in November and it changes what time you need to be picked up from rehearsal.

Please let me know if you cannot attend either of these sessions.  johnjgdyer@yahoo.com

See you at rehearsals this week and Happy Hat and headband making!

Austrian Hat and Head Band Making!

We're are looking for a few crafty people to lead "Austrian Hat and Head band" making.
The plan is to have the children in the Lonely Goat Chorus make their own hat and head bands for the Lonely Goatherd show.
We have the plans (they are easy and fun!) and we would need you to pick up the supplies and help the children put them together.  This will be scheduled on two Saturdays during rehearsal.
Saturday, Jan 15 after the lunch break from 12:00 - 1:00 in the courtyard
Saturday, Jan 29 after the lunch break from 12:00 - 1:00 in the courtyard
This is not on the schedule, but we will be adding it shortly.  Hopefully most of the Lonely Goat Chorus will be available to attend one of the sessions.

Please let Peggy Dyer know if you are interested.  It will be a lot of fun and a great way to get involved. We could use a few people.  Contact me at dyer_peggy@yahoo.com
