Hi Everyone.
*Please start bringing your costumes in for approval now! I will be at rehearsals for sure on Mondays and Saturdays (and probably many others too). So don't wait. ***If you're not rehearsing on a Monday or Saturday and you can fit it into your schedule, come to church anyway and bring your costume in for me to review. There's a LOT of you and a LOT of costumes this year, so we want to make sure everything is on track because it's only going to get crazier later!!!
A plastic bin works great for storing these items. We will not hand out any accessories to kids without a plastic bin for fear of them getting misplaced. PLEASE let me or the costume crew know if you have any trouble finding costumes. We are happy to help.
Boys – All boys are in both the Lonely Goatherd chorus and the Picnicker’s chorus although they can wear the same outfit for both. Here is what I suggest for them.
- Brown, dark tan, dark green, or gray pants that can be purchased at a thrift shop and brought in to be cut off for knickers or shorts.
- White or cream dress button shirt although other light colors may work too. This can be long or short sleeve.
- Knee high socks in brown, white or other color to match.
- Brown or black shoes
Suspenders will be provided. If you would like to add a hat from the 30’s era that would be GREAT.
Girls – All girls will be in either the Lonely Goatherd chorus or the Picnicker’s chorus but the basic costume is the same.
- All girls should be in dresses, skirt and blouse or jumper and blouse. Please choose colors in the earth tone family or greens, reds or blues….no pinks or purples please. These dresses are usually full skirts with puffier sleeves. Blouses were fuller back then also. The Lonely Goatherd girls will be given aprons and head pieces to wear for that scene. Girls will also need tights or knee highs preferably in white or a color to match costume. Black flats will be great for shoes. The picnickers chorus is welcome to add hats, purses, jewelry etc from that era.
- Teen girls may wish to have a slim mid-calf skirt with a blouse and belt. I do have a few of these if you would like to look at them.
PICNICKERS
Women – There are pictures on the blog sight of some dress options. Slim mid-calf skirts are great with a dressy blouse too. Feel free to add purses, jewelry, hats, etc from the era. I do have some of these already. Please avoid pinks, purples or too bright of colors.
Men – Men can wear brown, dark tan, grey or dark green pants. You should also have a button shirt in an earth tone color or blues or greens. Subtle stripes are fine. Suspenders would be great. If you have a casual sport coat (maybe tweed) that you would like to add that would be fine too. I do have about 10 fedora hats if you would like one. Just ask me at a rehearsal.
PARTY CHORUS
Women – I am seeing great dresses already! You should be choosing floor length dresses in a color other than white or black. If the dresses are strapless, feel free to add a shawl or bolero jacket if you wish. White gloves would also be nice. Wear lots of costume jewelry in pearls, fake diamonds, etc. Sparkly barrettes or headpieces are great too. You can find a great selection of dresses at Good will, Savers or other thrift shops. I do have a few in sizes 6-12.
MEN – You should be in a black or Dark Blue suit with a white shirt. Tuxedos are also great. Bow ties would be very nice but we are also making some ascot ties if you would like one. White gloves would also be great. Please wear black dress shoes.
Refuges may stay in their original costumes or change to darker warm clothes and add capes, shawls, sweaters, hats, gloves etc to dress warm for the climb into the mountains. We do have a few of these available.
NUNS – You will need black socks or tights if you are a postulant and black fairly flat shoes.
